Ibadan roofing quotes

Roof quotes for Ibadan: a double rainfall peak, a large stock of corrugated iron, and what to tell us about Bodija, Akobo, Oluyole, and older compounds.

Ibadan’s roofs are, more than Lagos’s or Abuja’s, a storey of older corrugated iron with later rooms added beside it. The rain does not arrive as one coastal monsoon or as Abuja’s single central-zone season. It comes as a south-western double peak, eases in the middle, and comes back. A patch that survived the first peak and failed in the second is a normal Ibadan leak, not a mysterious one. Quotes for this city have to respect that stock and that calendar.

The request is fulfilled by Micheletti Construction. Alberto Micheletti, managing director, was a manager at L. D’Alberto & Company Limited in Ibadan from 2009 to 2012, between project work in Lagos and the company role in Abuja.

Two peaks, not one long soak and not one short season

A Nigerian Meteorological Society paper on rainfall variability in Ibadan describes a tropical wet-and-dry climate with onset around mid-March and an end around mid-November, a double maximum, and the August break, and it puts mean annual rainfall over the study area at about 1,500 millimetres. Station tables in that paper, from NiMet and FRIN records between 1989 and 2018, show years well below and well above that level. The “about 1,500” figure is a description of the record they analysed, not a forecast that next year will match it.

NiMet’s 2025 outlook, reported by Punch and TheCable, is a different kind of number. Inland southern states including Oyo were given 200 to 250 rainy days, shorter than the 250 to 290 days on coastal Lagos, and the end of the season for Oyo was placed in the same late-November to mid-December progress as other inland southern states. Science Nigeria’s account said parts of Oyo would see moderate effects from the little dry season, and some areas mild ones, against a severe 27-to-40-day break in Lagos. Borrowing Lagos’s August shutdown and applying it to a site in Akobo is how a roof gets opened in a week that is only lighter, not dry.

Heat sits on these roofs as well. A University of Ibadan civil engineering thesis on the local climate notes the warm-humid pattern and the way the rainy season builds from about February or March toward a first peak, pauses, and returns through late November. Thin single-skin iron over a top-floor room is a comfort problem and a leak problem. The quote can mention a ceiling or a foil lining. It should not pretend a lining repairs a hole.

The sheets the city already has

Between July and September 2012, researchers surveyed 1,067 households across the 11 local government areas of Ibadan city. Sixty-nine percent of respondents had corrugated iron sheet roofs. Fewer than 14 percent had tiles, and a similar share had cement concrete, in that paper’s account. The survey is not a 2026 census. It is the clearest published count this site will use, and it matches what repair requests from the city tend to describe: iron, often patched, sometimes meeting a newer wing.

Those patches matter. A sheet replaced over one room, screwed into a purlin that also carries the original sheet, moves differently in the afternoon heat. The leak is at the joint. Bitumen smeared along that joint in a dry week will not be the repair in October. Say how many times the spot has already been patched. A roof that is mostly patch is a replacement conversation. A roof with one open end lap is a repair.

Aluminium long-span exists in Ibadan, particularly on later houses, and stone-coated profiles exist too. They are not the 69 percent. If you have them, say so, because the fastener and the weight are different from the iron the survey recorded. A 2025 study that tested profile aluminium against NIS 488:2010 did so in north-central factories, not in Ibadan shops. Use it only as a caution: ask what thickness you were sold.

Places, and the jobs that come out of them

Bodija, the University of Ibadan area, and Agodi GRA have a mix of older campus and civil-service houses and later infill. The interesting roof is often the original iron plus a boys’ quarters or a floor added for relatives. Access is a compound, sometimes with a tree hard against the eaves. The tree is part of the leak if the leaves fill the gutter before the second peak.

Jericho and Iyaganku are older residential fabric. Storey houses, shorter setbacks, and sheets that have been painted many times are common subjects. Paint is not a coating specification. If the paint is hiding rust-through, the photo should show the underside or a lifted edge, not only the colour.

Ring Road, Challenge, and Molete are busier and more commercial at the edges. A church, a school, or a lock-up terrace may share a party wall and a gutter that nobody owns. The commercial page helps if the building is in use all week. Name the road. “Challenge” is a real place; it is also a word that means nothing if you leave the neighbourhood box blank.

Oluyole, including the industrial layout, is where longer sheets and warehouses show up. The yard is often the difference between a straightforward replacement and a job that has to be carried through a shop. Akobo and the roads toward the east of the city are later residential growth: duplexes, some long-span, some still iron, built while the owner lived downstairs. Opening that roof in the second rainfall peak needs a plan for the rooms below.

Bashorun, Mokola, Dugbe, and Moniya can all be written in the neighbourhood field. They are not given identical paragraphs here on purpose. Dugbe is commercial and tight. Moniya is further out, with more recent blockwork. If your place is not in this list, the form still wants the name you use for it.

What an Ibadan quote should say in the first minute

Say whether the sheet is the original iron, a patchwork, or a newer aluminium or stone-coated roof. Say if an extension meets the old slope. Say whether the leak is in the first peak, the August lull, or the second peak — that single fact changes the diagnosis. Say if anyone is living under the slope you want opened.

This page does not give a naira figure or a phone number. Micheletti Construction follows up by the method you choose, on the number and email you type.

If the house is in Oyo town, Ogbomoso, or elsewhere in the state rather than in Ibadan, choose “Another city” and name it. The Ibadan climatology above should not be pasted onto a different town without saying so.

Questions people ask

Is corrugated iron still the main Ibadan roof?

A 2012 survey of 1,067 households found it on 69 percent of the roofs in that sample. Newer aluminium and stone-coated roofs exist. The survey is not a current census. Describe the sheet you actually have.

Why did the leak return in October after a quiet August?

Ibadan’s rainfall is a double peak with a lighter spell between. A path that only opens under heavier rain can look fixed in August and run again in the second peak. That pattern is a reason to repair the path, not a reason to repaint the ceiling and stop.
