Kano is a northern commercial city. The dry season is long and hot, Harmattan dust fills gutters for months, and the rains, when they come, are a shorter season than Lagos or Ibadan. Roofs here cover houses, shops, market sheds, and industrial buildings. Micheletti Construction is based in Abuja and takes this work. There is no Kano office on this site, and no street address.

Heat before the rain
The months before the rains are the hottest stretch. A single-skin metal roof over a shop or a bedroom becomes a heat problem as well as a leak problem, because the sheet has spent the dry season baking and the rooms under it are occupied. That is not a reason to invent a lining product on this page. It is a reason to say, on the form, whether people work or sleep directly under the slope. A quote that ignores that will treat a warehouse bay and a family room as the same job.
NiMet’s 2025 seasonal outlook, as reported by Punch and TheCable, grouped Kano with other far-northern states at about 110 to 150 rainy days, and described northern onset as early June into July. That is a forecast for that year, not a promise that every July will match it. It is also much shorter than the coastal season used on the Lagos page. A roof in Kano is asked to survive heat and dust for most of the year, then a concentrated wet spell.
Dust, then the first storms
In November 2022 NiMet warned of dust haze over a list of northern places that included Kano and Gombe, and described the northern dry season as a time of little or no rain, dust, cold nights, and high daytime temperatures. In Kano that dust sits in gutters, laps, and the channels behind parapets on newer plazas. The first storms do not need a new hole to wet a ceiling. They need an outlet that the dry months filled. If the stain appeared once, on that first rain, say so. If it returns in every storm through the short wet season, the path is a lap, a fastener, a valley, or a pipe through the sheet.
Do not borrow Abuja’s calendar and call it Kano. Abuja’s wet season is a central-belt season. Kano’s is the shorter northern one. Do not borrow Gombe’s flood map either. Gombe’s published problem is intense rain in named low parts of a smaller capital. Kano’s is heat, dust, commerce, and industry across a much larger city.
Where the buildings actually differ
The old city, Birni, inside the historic walls, is not Sabon Gari. Compounds, the Emir’s palace quarter, and Kurmi Market are a tight fabric. Roofs are close, access is narrow, and a leak over a shop in the market is not a leak over a GRA bungalow. Say if the building is inside the old city.
Fagge and Sabon Gari are the commercial districts most people mean when they say the city trades all day. Shops, depots, and rooms above the trade stay occupied. A gutter that dumps onto a pavement is a trading problem. There is often nowhere to stack old sheets. Put the hours the shutter can close, if it can.
Nassarawa GRA is the planned residential side: larger houses, offices, and hotels, with more room in the compound and more likelihood of a parapet or a complex roof. Do not describe a GRA house as a Sharada shed.
Bompai and Sharada are industrial ground: factories, workshops, and long sheds. The span is longer, the gutter has to take a whole slope in a short wet season, and dust from the yard packs the outlet in the dry months. Daylight panels, if they have cracked, leak on their own. One bay can be the whole problem. This page will not claim how many of those roofs are long-span aluminium or stone-coated steel. You name what you can see. There is no naira figure for a bay.
Other well-known names you can type on the form, without this site pretending each has its own essay yet: Hotoro, Tarauni, Dala, Gwale. Dawanau, on the edge, is the grains market. A wide trading roof there is a commercial job. Name it if that is the building. This pass does not add a neighbourhood page for any of them.
Checklist
- House, shop, market shed, or industrial building. Which ceiling is wet?
- Old city, Sabon Gari, Fagge, Nassarawa GRA, Bompai, Sharada, or another place you name.
- Did the leak come on the first storm, or through the wet months?
- Is the room under the sheet occupied in the hottest months?
- Can a long sheet enter the gate, or is the street too tight?
- Hours the shop or factory can pause, if it can.
| Place | What to tell the quote |
|---|---|
| Old city and Kurmi | Tight access, and whether the roof is over trade or a compound |
| Sabon Gari and Fagge | A shop that stays open, and nowhere to stack sheets |
| Nassarawa GRA | A house or office with more compound, often a more broken roof |
| Bompai and Sharada | A long span, a yard, and a gutter full of dry-season dust |
No Kano office
Micheletti Construction’s base on this site is Abuja. Work in Kano is taken from there. Do not look for a branch address in Sabon Gari or Bompai. None is published. The same company has a Kano page on its own site, Micheletti Construction in Kano, and building quotes for the city are on Nigeria Building. This page is only the roof.
Choose “Another city” on the form and type Kano, plus the neighbourhood. If you are in Gombe, use the Gombe page instead. It is not this city with the name changed. Active water is still described on how to find a leak. There is no price list.
